The Vow Exchange or Cakewalk Events are not able to issue marriage licenses, however the couple may obtain a marriage license in any county as long as it is within the State of Missouri. A license from any other state (including Kansas) will NOT result in a legal marriage at our facility. Couples will need to obtain their marriage license no sooner than 30 days before their event. Licenses expire exactly 30 days after the issue date, so be careful not to get the license too far out from the event date. Expired licenses will not result in a legalized marriage. For special situations, including participants with non-citizen status or those who cannot be there for the license application process, we recommend that you contact the office of the Recorder of Deeds directly for instructions.
Additionally, couples needing a certified copy in a hurry for legal purposes, can request it by personally returning the completed license to the courthouse (for Jackson County) or by pre-paying for a certified copy when applying for the license. Once your license is completed at the conclusion of your ceremony, your officiant will return the official copy of your license to the courthouse via mail on the next business day (unless otherwise arranged). Please allow up to 2 weeks for your license to be received and filed by the courthouse.
